BDI expects further commissions for Multi-Feedstock plants

12.05.2011 / 08:00

---------------------------------------------------------------------

- Commission obtained to extend a Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant in
Scotland
- Capital repayment of EUR 2.65 per share
- Positive feedback from the market about the 'RetroFit programme'
- New regulations about waste recycling increase global market potential
for Multi-Feedstock BioGas plants

(Grambach, 12.05.2011) BDI - BioEnergy International AG succeeded in
obtaining further commissions in the first few months of the new fiscal
year too: in addition to new commissions in the fine vacuum distillation
field, the company obtained a commission to expand a BioDiesel plant in
Scotland with a volume of EUR 3.1 million in February. Enbasys, the BDI
subsidiary, was commissioned to build a BioGas plant in Germany for more
than EUR 4 million in May. This means that the total orders on hand
currently amount to EUR 28 million and represent a sound basis for
utilisation of the company's capacities in 2011.

'Renewable energies have been an even more relevant issue than ever before
since the nuclear catastrophe occurred in Japan: this disaster has
demonstrated once again that the promotion of alternative energy sources is
essential to make sure we are supplied with energy safely. The fact that
priority is being given here to the intelligent use of waste is further
confirmation of our 'waste to energy' philosophy. BDI will be continuing to
work intensively on the development and marketing of technologies for the
obtainment of bioenergy from waste materials and by-products. Another
specific objective is to bring current research projects to the stage where
products can be brought to market. Algae for products in the pharmaceutical

and food industries and the 'BioCrack' process, for which a patent
application has been filed and which processes by-products of refineries
into high-quality fuel with biogenic content, are just two examples of
this. BioDiesel and BioGas are key elements of a viable renewable energy
mix in future', says Wilhelm Hammer, CEO of BDI - BioEnergy International
AG.

New commissions ensure capacity utilisation in 2011
BDI's sales in the first quarter of 2011 amounted to EUR 8.2 million,
compared with EUR 10.8 million in the previous year. The poorer sales
development than in the previous year is attributable to differences in the
progress made in the implementation of large projects: while they were at
the material procurement stage in the previous year, the current projects
are only in the engineering phase, so that they are contributing
comparatively little to sales development. The after-sales business is
continuing to develop stably.

The total orders on hand amounted to EUR 24 million on 31.03.2011, compared
with EUR 23.6 million at the end of 2010. Together with the existing
project pipeline, they create the basis for utilisation of the company's
plant construction capacities.

The operating result (EBIT) amounted to EUR 1.5 million, compared with EUR
1.3 million in the same period the previous year. Cost savings and
optimisation measures enabled the EBIT margin to be raised substantially to
18.0% from 12.5% in the previous year. Earnings before taxes (EBT) amounted
to EUR 1.6 million (previous year: EUR 1.4 million). Period earnings after
deduction of taxes - and non-controlling interests - were EUR 1.2 million
(previous year: EUR 1.1 million). This led to earnings per share of EUR
0.31 (previous year: EUR 0.28).

The capital payment of EUR 2.65 per share, about which a resolution was
passed in 2010, was made in March. BDI continued to have very strong cash
reserves in spite of this repayment of EUR 10.1 million. The balance sheet
items 'Securities' and 'Liquid funds' totalled EUR 50.6 million on
31.03.2011 (31.12.2010: EUR 57.4 million).

Expansion of the product portfolio improves growth prospects
Thanks to an effective acquisition policy, BDI has succeeded in broadening
its base and in expanding its product portfolio substantially. BDI has
already made great progress in the BioGas field: BDI cooperates with its
subsidiary Enbasys GmbH in a concept for the marketing and construction of
BioGas plants. Interest in BioGas plants for the processing of industrial
and municipal waste remains strong following initial commissions and
specific negotiations are being held about potential commissions.

The high degree of dependence on raw materials that are inexpensive but
difficult to process and the even stricter versions of BioDiesel standards
that are anticipated will increase demand for the modernisation of existing
plants even more. There is as a result great interest in BDI's 'RetroFit'
programme.

In order to broaden the product portfolio even more, possible acquisitions
are also being investigated that are sensible additions to the current
range in the 'waste to energy' field.
