GERRY WEBER's Retail segment reports tremendous surge in May sales across
all Retail lines
The Retail segment of GERRY WEBER International AG boosted its sales by
almost 42 percent to EUR 20 million (May 2010: EUR 14.1 million) excluding
VAT. All business units of the Retail segment contributed to this growth.
The highly positive trend recorded in recent months continued on a
like-for-like basis, showing excellent sales growth of 27 percent. While
domestic Retail sales grew at an above-average rate of 32 percent, the
Taifun and Samoon mono-label stores even achieved increases of as much as
40 percent. The foreign Retail units posted double-digit growth on average
as well. Sales at the factory outlets also expanded at a very good rate
(+17 percent).
Managing Director Ralf Weber is very satisfied with the trend seen in the
month of May: 'We are very well aware that we had three additional sales
days last month. However, even adjusted for these days, our year-on-year
growth was exceptional.' The Managing Director sees the reason for the
increase in demand at the point of sale in the modernisation of the
collections which he says 'have simply gone down very well with our
customers' as well as the clear productivity increases achieved in recent
months.
The company's Retail expansion is on an equally positive track. At least 40
additional Houses of Gerry Weber are to be opened by year-end and the
company also continues to push ahead the international expansion of its
Retail operations. GERRY WEBER plans to make its entry into a number of
additional international markets during the next financial year.
