Craig Kielburger Statement on Malala Yousafzai & Kailash Satyarthi Nobel Peace Prize Award Recipients
"Today's Nobel Laureate Announcement is an Incredible Step Toward Ensuring All Young People Around the World Are Empowered Through Education to Achieve Their Fullest Potential."-Craig Kielburger, International Activist and Co-Founder, Free The Children

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/10/14 -- "It is with incredible joy that we celebrate this prestigious recognition of Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi's commitment to children's rights - an acknowledgement that is, candidly, long overdue in an extensive journey toward empowerment. Activists like Kailash have fought to successfully lower the number of enslaved children by one third in the past 15 years, while young people like Malala, who has become a global symbol of the power of young women, have led the world in the battle towards universal education.
I am fortunate to have witnessed the full evolution of this story. Twenty years ago, I had the incredible opportunity to see the problem first hand, accompanying Kailash as he kicked down doors and gave the gift of freedom to hundreds of labouring children. When he was imprisoned, I vowed to continue sharing his legacy - Free The Children was born out of that promise and, as one of our very first projects, we galvanized youth across Canada to fund Kailash's largest child rescue center, called Bal Ashram.
Twenty years later, I am fortunate to see the solution in practice as we work with Malala to ensure that all children are empowered with an education. She was inspired by the hundreds of thousands of young people in the Free The Children network who stood beside her in silent solidarity for girls who are denied the right to learn through our We Are Silent campaign; she took the stage at We Day UK to inspire not only the 12,000 youth in attendance, but an entire generation to take action as agents of local and global change; and she even travelled with us to Kenya this past summer to build her very first school, literally laying the foundation for young women to be empowered with an education.
This Nobel Peace Prize, honouring Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai, is an incredible step towards ensuring young people everywhere are empowered to achieve their fullest potential. We are honoured to mark this historic day as Malala and Kailash continue to inspire a global movement. Today we celebrate a victory for the rights of children around the world!"
