With so many great superheroes based on creatures like spiders, bats, and wolverines, the creators asked themselves, "What if there was another animal so powerful and stealth that it remained undiscovered by modern man?" In the comic, Hungarian ice cream truck driver, takes a mid-day hike and stumbles into the powerful force of the Apama spirit.
Cleveland's landmarks and neighborhoods show up extensively. Recognizable buildings and bridges get damaged by villains, and when Ilyia rips his costume, its actual Cleveland resident of who repairs it in her boutique.
The creative duo chose the versatile of Valenciana, Spain to illustrate Apama. To make sure Gallego's portrayal of Cleveland is rich with authenticity, Sikora photographs the city and its people, then uploads the images to Gallego.
To fund the first hardcover volume of Apama: The Undiscovered Animal, Sikora and Miller turned to Kickstarter. () They reached their ambitious goal in just seven days, assuring an early releaseThe campaign continues through October 31.
