(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/27/14 -- Today, First Air flight attendants strongly endorsed the tentative agreement reached last month between the union and the employer.

"It was a tough eight months of bargaining, but together we achieved major gains and First Air flight attendants will benefit for years to come," said CUPE Component President of First Air Ken Smith.

The 20-month collective agreement includes a mandatory pension plan for all members, ensures seniority rights will be respected when job vacancies occur, and improves flight scheduling. Also, from now on First Air flight attendants based in Iqaluit will have the same working conditions as their colleagues.

The agreement will expire on December 31, 2015. The deal was approved by 73 per cent of the members. The union reached a tentative deal with the employer on September 9, 2014. The union recommended ratification of the deal to the membership. First Air flight attendants had been without a contract since April 2014.

CUPE represents 87 flight attendants at First Air. They work out of Yellowknife, Edmonton, Iqaluit and Ottawa. In total, CUPE represents over 10,000 flight attendants employed by Air Canada, Air Transat, Calm Air, Canadian North, Canjet, Cathay Pacific, First Air and Sunwing.
