100 special activities to celebrate Parks Canada's Centennial!

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/15/11 -- "Come celebrate Parks Canada's centennial by spending unforgettable moments in exceptional locations showcasing Canada at its best!" That was the message relayed to Canadians by the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada.

To commemorate Parks Day, on July 16, Parks Canada is offering Canadians free admission to all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas, and to participate in one of the 100 special activities organized this year to highlight the centennial of the world's very first national parks service.

"Parks Day which is part of the centennial celebrations of Parks Canada, represents a unique opportunity to celebrate the beauty and wealth of our natural and cultural heritage, said Minister Kent. "So I invite Canadians to take full advantage of this free day and come celebrate Parks Canada's Centennial."

In addition, special programming has been planned in the heart of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, including family-oriented animation booths and free concerts gathering some of Canada's most prominent stage artists, so that Canada's urban population can become more familiar with Parks Canada network and fully participate in its centennial festivities.

For the very first time, the public will hear Canada's New Campfire Song The Parks Song, specially composed for Parks Canada's centennial by Sarah Harmer. This song will be performed by Sarah Harmer during her Toronto Parks Day concert, on Saturday, July 16. Thanks to a collaboration between Parks Canada and CBC Radio 2, The Parks Song can be heard on , the sheet music is available on Parks Canada and CBC Radio web sites.
