Nonprofit Organization Will Trek Through New York City on November 21 in Solidarity With Women Around the World Who Must Walk Every Day to Collect Water

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 11/17/14 -- On Friday, November 21, 2014 WaterAid will embark on a six mile walk across Manhattan. , the world's largest international nonprofit solely dedicated to improving access to safe water, toilets and hygiene in the world's poorest communities, intends to raise awareness for the organization's biggest #GivingTuesday challenge yet.

Hallie Tamez, Associate Director of Major Gifts for WaterAid, will lead the six mile trek carrying a 40 pound jerry can filled with water to inspire everyday heroes on the streets of New York to step up and help tackle the global water crisis. The walk reflects the distance and amount of water carried by many women and girls each day in the world's poorest countries.

"748 million people live without safe water and almost 40 percent of the world's population doesn't have adequate sanitation," said Ms. Tamez. "The #Steps4Water event will highlight the daily experiences of women and children living without clean water. As we shed light on this issue, we look forward to welcoming new supporters to help raise funds on #, December 2, 2014."

The trek across Manhattan will begin in Times Square and end at United Nations on 45th Street and First Avenue. The full route can be viewed here:

Anyone posting photos of the event on Instagram that tag (at)WaterAidAmerica and include the hashtag #Steps4Water will be entered into a drawing to win a meal for two at Spasso in New York's West Village.
