Martin Rumack - Great Canadian Crafting Legend, Lawyer and a Founding Member of One of a Kind Show Set to Be Honoured During Opening Night Hall of Fame
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/27/14 -- After 40 years, Martin Rumack, founder of the One of a Kind Canadian Craft Show will be honoured at this year's opening of the event at Exhibition Place. The event will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, November 27th in the Direct Energy Centre.
"It's really heart-warming to be given this honour. It's been a long haul but I've enjoyed every minute of it," says Rumack of his new status. For many Canadians, the One of a Kind Christmas Show is a longstanding shopping tradition for those in search of one-of-a-kind gifts. Martin Rumack will be honored at this year's Gala as one of the founding members of the trio that launched the One of a Kind Craft Show 40 years ago. Tickets for the event can be purchased on-line at . The tickets will provide general admission to the event.
The idea to start the show resulted from a casual get together of a hippy jeweller, a young inexperienced (at the time) lawyer, and a long-haired social work student. The root of the idea resulted from the fact the jeweller who was from Montreal talked to the lawyer (Martin Rumack) and the social work student about a successful Craft Show which had been in existence in Montreal for several years at that time. She believed Toronto was ready for, needed and would support a similar type of exhibition and sale. During the course of the meeting, having some "refreshments" in their bodies, they decided to proceed with the idea, and the Canadian Craft show seed was germinated.
With a budget of only $3000, a postal strike, not being known in the craft and art community and the initial refusal by Exhibition Place to rent to the trio, the first show had its challenges. Despite all of this, they were successful in providing a seven day show and sale. Even though that Saturday saw them inundated with a massive snowstorm which severely impacted the attendance that day, the "success" of the first year's show resulted in it becoming one of the best Craft and Art shows and sales in North America.
Martin Rumack is a Toronto lawyer that was called to the bar in 1973. In 1978, he opened his firm and practices in the Deer Park area of Toronto. Martin is a qualified arbitrator under the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Condominium Institute.
