Facility in Garner, N.C., to Provide Care to Troubled Youth
(firmenpresse) - GARNER, NC -- (Marketwire) -- 07/18/11 -- The Town of Garner, N.C., welcomes Memphis, Tenn.-based Strategic Behavioral Health (), which today broke ground on a state-of-the-art, 92-bed treatment facility in Garner's Greenfield South Business Park.
As North Carolina continues with its mental health and substance abuse reform, it has become clear that intensive residential and acute services are needed for area youth and their families. Currently, Triangle-area youth and their families have to travel within the state as far as Wilmington, Charlotte or Asheville for such services. Many young people have to go out of state to receive these types of services because existing in-state facilities are at capacity.
Strategic Behavioral Health, a national company building and acquiring a variety of behavioral health programs, focuses on acute and residential services in areas where there is an identified need. The company's $10 million, 54,000-square-foot facility in Garner should help alleviate the hardships on young people and families in need of residential mental-health and substance-abuse services. The center, which will sit on 14 acres, is due to be completed next summer.
"We are very pleased to be able to build this facility here," said Jim Shaheen, president and founder of Strategic Behavioral Health. "Not only are we fulfilling an unmet need, but we are providing 250-plus healthcare jobs for the region.
"We have received great support from the state and local mental-health community and social service agencies. Local families deserve to receive services closer to home and soon they will. Studies have shown us that family involvement in treatment more than doubles our success rate with these youth," Shaheen said.
The center will provide individual and group counseling, family and recreational therapy, educational services and vocational training. The staff will consist of physicians, nurses, therapists, teachers, case managers, dietary and direct care staff, along with administrative personnel.
As part of greater Raleigh -- recently named best place in America for businesses and careers by Forbes for the fourth time in five years -- Garner () anticipates significant industrial, commercial and residential growth in the coming years and has planned wisely for it.
