Fifth Annual Gathering Attendees Address Several Issues, Including Technician Recruiting, Training and Retention Needs

(firmenpresse) - GLEN ALLEN, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/02/14 -- Decisiv, Inc., the leading provider of (SRM) solutions for commercial assets, today announced that a highly satisfied group of fleet and service provider management personnel attended its 5th annual Maintenance Summit. The unique opportunity to share best practices during panel discussions and interactive group sessions was focused this year on shop throughput and technician availability.

"The technician shortage is acute for service operations in the transportation industry," said Jack Porter of GPorter Group, LLC, who has run Decisiv's 20 groups and consulting practice for the past 12 years and served as facilitator for the event. "The 28 attendees at this year's Decisiv Maintenance summit are collectively looking for more than 2,000 technicians. Today, recruiting, training and retaining qualified technicians is a full-time job and a top concern, which is why we made it a focus of our presentations and discussions."

Attendees at the Decisiv Maintenance Summit agreed that a long-range goal for the entire industry should be to promote how a career as a service technician can be a long term, well paying and stable choice. "Fleets and service providers need to bring better clarity to technician roles and responsibilities," Porter said. "An industry wide campaign is needed to attract technicians, especially by communicating how younger candidates with technology skills required for working on today's more complicated vehicles are in demand. Service provider management that understands how to blend the old with the new will be most successful at attracting technicians."

On the summit agenda were sessions on shop scheduling and workload, visibility and status management challenges, technician performance metrics, training and career path programs, and Key Process Indicators (KPIs) to uniformly measure productivity and performance. The summit enabled the participants to create the basic structure of a "Performance Matrix" for their technicians and provided invaluable lessons and very valuable information that can impact revenue and profitability at their companies.

Other top concerns expressed by Decisiv Maintenance Summit participants included equipment utilization for tractors and trailers, limiting downtime caused by new equipment technology, the need for service operations to more effectively and quickly diagnose vehicles, cost control processes and using the correct metrics to measure performance.

"The annual Decisiv Maintenance Summit enables fleets and service providers to collaborate, communicate and share best practices," said Michael Riemer, VP Products and Channel Marketing at Decisiv. "This year, it was particularly interesting to see the rising importance of mobile inspection technology, remote diagnostics and ensuring the consistent use of VMRS operations with SRTs -- all of which are key components of our existing platform."

Founded in 2001 and based in Glen Allen, Virginia, Decisiv is the world's leading provider of (SRM) solutions for commercial assets in trucking and transportation, coach, construction, mining, power generation, marine, and other related markets. Decisiv's cloud-based software, mobile applications and services enable enterprises, government entities and service providers to more effectively manage, monitor and report on service and repair event interactions independent of asset type, service provider or device.
