A First for VOX: International Broadcaster of the Quebec Open Jeep, Presented by Videotron
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 07/20/11 -- VOX has been chosen as the host and international broadcaster of the volleyball event Quebec Open Jeep, presented by Videotron. VOX will broadcast this international beach volleyball competition, to be held in Quebec City for the first time from July 20 to July 24, 2011, in HD on channel 609 and in standard definition on channel 9. VOX will also provide the feed of the eagerly anticipated summer event to a potential audience of 250 million in some 20 countries. Sportscasters from around the world will be able to cover the competition and do the play-by-play commentary to accompany the images provided by VOX. "VOX is proud to add this international event to its high-calibre sports programming line-up," said Eric Fournier, General Manager of VOX.
VOX has dispatched a seasoned 75-member team to the event; Michel Quidoz, a talented producer with many sporting events to his credit, including coverage of NHL hockey, the Nagano and Mexico City Olympics, the Montreal Grand Prix, the Montreal World Tour and the 2011 UCI race in Quebec City, will be in charge of the international broadcast. Furthermore, VOX will have present in Quebec City a team of reporters dedicated to meeting the FIVB's broadcasting needs, as well as two units to provide content for social media, including Twitter (#qojvox and ) and Facebook ().
VOX has been broadcasting top-tier sporting events in high definition and showcasing up-and-coming athletes since 2007. Competitions such as Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games, the Bol d'or (the final game of the CEGEP football season), the snowboarding event RIDE Shakedown and numerous boxing matches in various weight classes are carried exclusively on the entire VOX network, which reaches more than 1.8 million Videotron households, turning the spotlight on the stars of tomorrow and delivering an unforgettable experience for sports enthusiasts.
WORLD-CLASS EVENT
The Quebec Open Jeep is a stop on the prestigious Swatch World Tour organized by the FIVB, which is returning to Canada after a three-year absence. In all, more than 200 participants and some 102 teams from 29 countries will take part in the event. The international beach volleyball elite can be expected to put on a great show as they compete for points to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London. "Beach volleyball was the most-watched sport at the Beijing Olympics in 2008," notes Guylaine Dumont, a former international competitor and the spokesperson for the event.
On the women's side, the Brazilian team of Juliana/Larissa leads the rankings, followed by Walsh/May-Treanor of the U.S. and Xue/Zhang Xi from China. The picture is similar on the men's side, where top-ranked Brazilians Alison/Emanuel are dogged by Americans Rogers/Dalhausser and, in third place, Brink/Reckermann of Germany.
