McLaughlin launched his political career in his beloved home state of New Jersey, where he learned the basics of effective grassroots campaigning from veteran staff during the campaign to reelect New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. He later moved the Pacific Northwest where he worked as a campaign manager with Promote Oregon Leadership PAC, the campaigning arm of the Oregon House Republican Caucus.
