Council of the Federation's Annual Meeting
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/21/11 -- The Honourable Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada issued the following statement today on the Council of the Federation's Annual Meeting:
"Our government is pleased to see the provinces and territories come together to discuss a wide range of matters that affect all Canadians.
"We will continue to work together with the provinces and territories in a spirit of open federalism on the issues that face our country. We welcome their input and will take the results of this year's Council of Federation meeting into consideration as we plan our next steps.
"Our government has been clear that the economy is our top priority and the next phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan, A Low-Tax Plan for Jobs and Growth will invest in the key drivers of economic growth and will seek to foster an environment where all Canadians contribute and benefit from a stronger economy.

We remain committed to building on our strong relationship with the provinces and territories and seeing the continuation of the health transfer growing 6% annually.
"Our government will continue working with the provinces and territories to advance our ambitious international trade agenda that will further strengthen our economic stance on the world stage.
"We will work diligently with our counterparts across the country to ensure families have the tools they need to take care of their loved ones, provinces and territories work together and have the support necessary to protect their citizens, and communities continue to benefit from key infrastructure projects and lower taxes.
"The main goal for all levels of government is to make sure Canada remains prosperous, united, strong, and free. Our government will continue to work with our provincial and territorial partners to secure Canada's economic recovery."
