Citing agency officials, The Wall Street Journal reported this month that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved 20 new drugs so far this year -- just one short of the total for all of 2010. Research from BioMed Tracker and BIO claims that the cancer drug success rate is a mere 4.7 percent. Upon revealing the study, the agency's Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee endorsed several FDA proposals for tightening the accelerated approval standards.
