ECB-S: The anchoring of safes as a significant security factor
Only professional anchoring of safes makes them burglar- and fire-protected
Frankfurt/Main – February 2015. The international certification body ECB indicates that the burglary resistance of safes is decisively influenced by their anchoring. A non-professional affixing of a safe can negatively influence fire protection.
(firmenpresse) - ECB•S-certified safes are frequently being offered as so-called duplex products. This means these security products are equipped with fire protection and burglary resistance.
Anchoring is vital for the burglary resistance
The international certification body ECB points out that ECB•S-certified safes according to EN 1143-1 and with a weight below 1000 kg must be anchored by the user. Otherwise, burglars can remove the entire safe including the contents from the crime scene.
For proper anchoring, safes need anchoring holes. “All the necessary material for anchoring is delivered by the manufacturer”, says Dr. Markus Heering, ECB managing director. It does not suffice to plug in parquet, light-weight concrete, floor screed or brick. “Only a massive concrete floor without any cracks is the right ground for proper anchoring”, claims Mr. Heering.
Fire protection not to be forgotten
On top of the proscribed anchoring holes, laymen very often plug additional holes to anchor the safe at some other position. However, additional holes can serve as heat bridge and influence fire protection.
For this reason, ECB recommends using only professional services when anchoring a safe. This also means that all unused anchoring holes are sealed.
