Insulators Applaud Ontario Government Action on Climate Change
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/12/15 -- The Heat and Frost Insulators Labour Management Cooperative Trust (Insulators LMCT) welcomed the release of a discussion paper from Ontario Minister of Environment and Climate Change Glen Murray on how to address climate change in Ontario. The Insulators LMCT are applauding the Ontario government for taking much-needed action to address climate change, and specifically the emission reduction that can be achieved through greening Ontario's buildings and infrastructure.
"We are encouraged to see Minister Murray and the Wynne Government take concrete steps to address the very real problem of climate change in Ontario," said Dave Gardner, Ontario Business Manager for the Insulators LMCT. "We are looking forward to contributing our comments, and to putting our skilled tradespeople to work to address this serious environmental challenge."
The Insulators LMCT represent tradespeople working as heat and frost insulators across North America. When properly installed, mechanical insulation has the ability to dramatically reduce both energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions in old and new buildings. The group recently presented to Ontario's Finance Committee on the potential cost-savings and energy emission reductions that could be achieved through the enhanced promotion and use of mechanical insulation across the province.
"Outdated and unmaintained buildings and infrastructure are a significant burden on Ontario's environment, through both lost energy and greenhouse gas emissions," said Vince Engel, Western Canada VP of the Insulators LMCT. "Many of these problems could be easily corrected, and at a very low cost to taxpayers and building owners."
The Insulators LMCT are asking the Ontario Government to consider a pilot program which evaluates the efficiency of insulation in provincially owned and operated buildings. They are also working with the private sector to raise awareness of the many benefits associated with mechanical insulation.
"Greening old and new buildings presents an opportunity to address climate change and reduce energy costs for business, government and citizens," said Gardner. "We are happy to see the Ontario government is taking this problem seriously, and we look forward to working with the Government to address this challenge."
