(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/26/15 -- The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) is pleased to announce that Malting Industry Association of Canada (MIAC) President Phil de Kemp has been named its new executive director.

Mr. de Kemp officially assumes the position on March 1, 2015.

"Phil de Kemp's long-standing commitment to growing domestic and international barley markets will allow our council to further develop Canada's barley industry domestically and internationally," said BCC Chair Brian Otto. "We look forward to benefiting from his expertise and experience."

Mr. de Kemp provides 25 years of experience in strengthening Canada's domestic and international trade relationships. He began his career working for Cargill Ltd and in 1986 he was seconded to the Federal Government on a two-year executive interchange program. He later became the Senior Policy Advisor to the Federal Minister of State for Grains, Oilseeds and the Canadian Wheat Board.

"In this role, I am looking forward to establishing an active and visible presence in Ottawa for the BCC," said de Kemp. "I am honoured to be a part of an innovative team and look forward to advancing the interests of the entire barley value chain both at home and abroad."

Mr. de Kemp joins the BCC at an exciting time for the industry as Canada's export barley market continues to grow and thrive through initiatives like the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) and the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Mr. de Kemp will manage BCC's operations out of Ottawa, where he will also remain the president of MIAC.
