Sentence in R. v. Chun

(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 03/18/15 -- Sy Veng Chun and Leng Ky Lech were sentenced today in the Court of Quebec to eight years in prison. They were also ordered to pay fines totalling approximately $9,000,000, which includes fines imposed on their companies, Peng Heng Or Gold Inc. and A & A Services monetaires.

They were found guilty on September 15, 2014 of 13 offences, including six offences in relation to money laundering and possession of proceeds of crime, and seven offences under the Income Tax Act. They were arrested in October 2002.

Both parties have 30 days to decide whether they will seek leave to appeal the sentence.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada is responsible for prosecuting offences under federal jurisdiction in a manner that is free of any improper influence and that respects the public interest. The PPSC is also responsible for providing prosecution-related advice to law enforcement agencies across Canada.
