Pellegrini chooses Gemalto for digital meal voucher program in Italy
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Amsterdam, Mar. 19, 2015 - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader
in digital security, is supplying Pellegrini with a complete solution for their
EMV digital meal voucher program. Pellegrini is a leading issuer of meal
vouchers delivering 35 million units every year. Gemalto is responsible for
production, integration, personalization and fulfillment of the cards, which
offer Pellegrini's clients a more convenient and efficient alternative to
traditional paper vouchers. The new program involves Italy's most important
payment processor ("Gestori Terminali") and is fully compatible with existing
EMV terminals. Unique in the Italian market, the program will further strengthen
Pellegrini's position in the Italian meal voucher market, one of the most
advanced in Europe with two million end users.
The new EMV cards support more effective management of employee meal voucher
programs. Benefits include the ability to load monthly meal allowances
automatically and remotely, rather than having to physically distribute paper
vouchers to employees. Paperless processing and invoicing brings administrative
efficiency and enables merchants to be reimbursed much faster. Greater
accountability is achieved and the risk of fraudulent use is minimized.
Pellegrini's network of 60,000 affiliated merchants will not need to invest in a
new POS infrastructure to enjoy the advantages of secure electronic
transactions. For end users, redeeming the digital vouchers is as quick and easy
as using a credit or debit card.
"Gemalto was selected because was capable of providing an EMV Certified card
which proved to be the most effective and versatile," said Davide Scaramuzza,
Director of Pellegrini's Meal Voucher Division. "This included extensive
consultancy services, helping to design and specify the solution and ensure the
whole project is delivered to extremely tight deadlines."
"Pellegrini is positioning itself at the forefront of innovation in the booming
market of digital meal vouchers," added Philippe Cambriel, President for Europe,
Mediterranean and CIS at Gemalto. "Furthermore, they are also positioned on a
roadmap that will allow seamless migration to further innovations, such as
mobile NFC."
