McElhanney President and CEO Honoured with 2011 ACEC Chairman's Award

Chris Newcomb, President and CEO of , was recently honoured by the . Chris received the 2011 Chairman's Award in recognition of his contributions to the ACEC "" student outreach program.
The "" project was launched in February 2009, with the aim of attracting engineering students to the consulting engineering industry and educating them on the career opportunities available in the field. The program was introduced in anticipation of a future shortage of engineers entering the industry, and it focuses on the long-term benefits of investing in students and graduates who will sustain engineering consulting businesses for years to come.
Initiatives include classroom presentations, participation in career fairs and student conferences, and the proactive hiring of student engineers and EITs. ACEC has also created a YouTube video featuring young engineers at interesting project sites and a bilingual web site, , designed for students considering a career path in consulting engineering. The online presence of the campaign has been further extended with pages on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, where students are able to participate in forums, pose questions, and network with other students. Events have been held in every Canadian province, with exposure also extending to international audiences.
Chris chaired the committee that introduced the "" campaign, and he has been recognized as one of the primary factors in its success. He is a past president of the , a past chairperson of ACEC, and has recently been nominated to serve on the executive committee of the . Chris has been with for over 30 years, and he has held his position as President and CEO since 1997.
