Innovative 3M Dyneon PTFE Micropowders
(PresseBox) - The innovative PTFE Micropowders from Dyneon GmbH are suitable for use as additives for printing inks and coatings. These so-called matrix materials offer excellent non-stick and sliding properties as well as almost universal chemical resistance.
The molecular weight of PTFE Micropowders is about 100 times lower than that of the well-known PTFE product variants. This powder is therefore unsuitable for normal compression moulding or sintering, since the finished mouldings would have no mechanical strength. However, the low molecular weight permits the homogeneous distribution of the powder in the matrix material and endows it with the respectively desired properties. Problems such as fibrillation in the production of plastics or difficulties in the degradation of pulverised particles are thus consigned to the past.
Desired properties in various applications
In inks for high-quality printed materials, PTFE micropowders improve the surface smoothness and the colour graduation as well as gloss and abrasion resistance. In non-stick and anti-friction coatings they optimise the non-stick effect, while the tribological properties ensure protection against corrosion, abrasion resistance, deep-drawing capability and spraying properties. Due to their good sliding properties, micropowders are also used as dry lubricants in metal forming processes (wire drawing and deep-drawing).
Resistant to chemicals, temperature and weather
PTFE micropowders are almost universally resistant to chemicals. They are usable within a wide temperature range from -190 °C to +260 °C. They exhibit neither embrittlement nor aging and are not combustible under normal conditions. In addition, they exhibit a high resistance to weathering influences, in particular to UV radiation, and offer very good insulating properties.
