Canadian Cancer Society's 19th Annual Daffodil Ball Raises an Unprecedented $1.9 Million

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/04/15 -- Thanks to the generosity of private and corporate donors, the Canadian Cancer Society's annual Daffodil Ball in Vancouver raised close to $2.0 million - the largest amount raised in the gala's history.
One of Vancouver's signature fundraising events with more than 550 guests in attendance, this year's gala was focused on supporting life-saving brain cancer research. In addition to the plentiful contributions from guests, and for the first time ever at the fundraising event, the Society's unique partnership with the Brain Canada Foundation saw that the generous gifts made throughout the evening's auctions were doubled.
It is estimated that 3,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with brain cancer this year, including 200 children. Even more troubling is that the five-year survival rate for adults has increased just 2 percent to 25 percent, which is considerably lower than the 63 percent survival rate for all cancers combined.
"The Daffodil Ball is a remarkable event where the generosity and compassion of donors, sponsors and guests will directly impact the fight against cancer," says Barbara Kaminsky, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon. "We are incredibly grateful and honoured for the boundless giving and support we received at this year's event. Together, we are making a significant difference in changing cancer forever."
The 2015 Daffodil Ball was presented by Silver Wheaton, and organized by a committee of business leaders and prominent philanthropists led by Carly Monahan and Jennifer Traub. An annual event not to be missed, this year's gala entertainment featured Steven Page, former Barenaked Ladies lead singer, coupled with enviable one-of-a-kind silent and live auction items, delectable cuisine and fine wines.
