(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 05/11/15 -- SmartMetric, Inc. (OTCQB: SMME): EMVCo, the chip card standards body, reported 3.4 billion EMV cards in global circulation 06 May 2015.
By the end of 2014, the number of EMV payment cards in circulation rose by 1 billion, up 43%, to 3.4 billion, from 2.37 billion in Q4 2013.
Cards remain the dominant platform for payments globally as they represent the only payments platform accepted across retail stores globally while also working with the existing ATM networks. Mobile is still in comparison a very small fringe payments platform that could take decades to come even close to the usage rates of plastic cards. SmartMetric is enthusiastic about the staggering growth of chip card global adoption and is excited about the prospects of its own chip card based biometric fingerprint cards that are designed to work with the EMV payments card infrastructure, said SmartMetric President &CEO, Chaya Hendrick.
