(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/15/15 -- The Los Angeles Conservation Corps is proud to announce the beginning of the 2015 season for their program . Tickets for the summer season go on sale Monday, May 18th at 7 AM for guided kayak tours down a 1.5-mile stretch of the LA River in the San Fernando Valley.

Unlike the concrete bottom typically associated with the river, this stretch has a natural dirt bottom with a host of wildlife and impressive ecosystem. The Paddle the LA River program represents the collective efforts of several environmental organizations uniting to enhance the public perception about the Los Angeles River. By paddling this scenic stretch, participants become reacquainted with Los Angeles' natural diversity and the effects of drought and pollution on our city. Paddle the LA River is partnering this year with Urban Semillas, Pacoima Beautiful and the Mayor's office with their "Save the Drop" initiative in an effort to educate the public about water usage.

The program will run from June 4 to September 23, Fridays-Sundays at $50 a ticket plus a $1.25 processing fee. Participants will assemble at the parking lot near the entrance of Lake Balboa/Anthony C. Beilenson Park off of Balboa Blvd between Victory Blvd and Burbank Blvd.

The address is:
Lake Balboa/Anthony C. Beilenson Park
6300 Balboa Blvd.,
Encino, CA 91316

Pablo Cardoso, Program Director of the LA Conservation Corps' Northeast LA site, who has been part of the Paddle the LA River program since its inception stated: "Our paddling trip is a fantastic local escape. One of our associates loved the program and the scenery so much that he and his wife got married at our launch site. We look forward to a terrific Paddle the LA River 2015 and to more people falling in love with this area."

The LA Conservation Corps' primary mission is to provide at risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.
