IT Organizations Trying to Keep Pace With Mobile Security Requirements Across the Boundaryless Enterprise
New Survey of IT Security Professionals Responsible for Mobile Security Reveals Malicious Exposures, Poor Risk/Prevention Awareness Among End-Users and Insecure Devices and Networks as Primary Concerns
(firmenpresse) - LOS GATOS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/03/15 -- Spikes Security, the isolation security company, today issued findings of new research on enterprise IT mobile security policies, practices and concerns commissioned by Spikes Security and conducted by Spiceworks, the professional network for IT. The "Mobile Security Report" underscores some of the major security gaps and increased threats that mobility is introducing to the enterprise.
160 IT professionals were surveyed, all of whom either make or directly influence the security decisions of their organizations, are employed by organizations of 100 or more employees, and are actively involved in securing mobile devices/BYOD.
"The results and implications of the study are clear," said Peter Tsai, IT Content Manager at Spiceworks. "Ninety percent of organizations surveyed are supporting at least one mobile device per employee, and nearly all respondents, 99%, have concerns about mobile security. It's clear that protecting the enterprise from mobile threats is one of the biggest challenges IT professionals are facing."
Several study findings validate common sentiments among IT professionals about current gaps in mobile security solutions and policies, and potential impacts on the enterprise. For example:
Limited mobile security & risk factor awareness among end users is the single greatest concern of IT respondents (52%).
The attack vectors that IT worries about the most: malicious file downloads (57%), malicious apps (50%), intentional/inadvertent leakages of sensitive data (49%) and email (48%).
Surprisingly, the top malware target inside corporate networks -- the web browser -- was a concern of only 29% of respondents, signaling that both IT professionals and end users may not be aware that mobile browsers are no less immune to malware infections.
Device and network security is a key issue: 52% of respondents' organizations allow (or do not prohibit) corporate network access over unknown off-premise 3G/4G networks, and 31% similarly allow privately-owned devices on it.
"What we learned from this research is that many of the same challenges that IT security teams have had to deal with for on-premise users, also now apply to the growing number of mobile users working across the boundaryless enterprise," noted Franklyn Jones, CMO of Spikes Security. "The key difference is that, while on-premise network security is fairly mature, many organizations are still trying to understand how best to protect mobile users working from home or on the road.
