Profit at lower revenue levels
Net profit of ? 4 million, integral approach paying off
Key points
· Improvement, primarily in The Netherlands, in operating profit to ? 14
million (H1 2009: ? 5 million underlying);
· Revenue declines autonomously by 15%, due to both a selective
contracting policy and difficult market conditions;
· Total number of homes sold in the Netherlands was 683 (H1 2009: 450),
but so far no sustained recovery expected in the housing market;
· Order book increased by 8% compared to the end of December 2009,
despite a challenging market;
· Net debt at end of June 2010 was ? 201 million less than mid-2009 (?
277 million versus ? 478 million);
· Some disposals of foreign assets
Gerrit Witzel, Chairman of the Heijmans Executive Board:
"Our results in the first half of 2010 demonstrate a clear improvement. Even
though the residential market shows some weak signs of modest recovery, the
market conditions remain very difficult. Our strategy remains focused on the
Netherlands. We keep our focus on sustainable improvement of our products and
processes. We will thereby enhance the quality for our clients, the costs will
be reduced and the profitability increased. In the past period we received many
compliments from both clients as for example road users, on the quality of our
work. Barring unforeseen circumstances, Heijmans expects 2010 to end up
profitably.
