Transmode expands EMXP IIe family for high-density and low-power 10G packet-optical networks
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
ANGA COM, Cologne. Germany and Stockholm, Sweden - 9(th) June 2015 - Transmode,
a global supplier of packet optical networking solutions, today announced the
availability of the latest member of the EMXP IIe family, the EMXP IIe 240
providing very high density and low power 10G based Ethernet switching for
Metro-Edge P-OTS applications.
Transmode has been at the forefront of the rapid migration to metro and regional
packet-optical transport solutions (P-OTS) which integrate Layer 2 Ethernet into
the optical platforms. The company is currently shipping these solutions across
the globe and was the leading vendor of P-OTS products in EMEA in 2014 according
to analyst firm IHS Infonetics.
Transmode's EMXP II/IIe family combines the best of the optical and Ethernet
worlds including MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) services, MPLS-TP and OTN
transport. The EMXP family provides Ethernet and MPLS-TP services with industry-
leading transport performance such as ultra-low latency and zero jitter to
ensure high service performance. The family of plug-in units also supports SyncE
and 1588v2 for mobile and other synchronization sensitive traffic.
The new EMXP IIe 240 unit extends the switching and port density with support
for 240G non-blocking switching and 24x 10G ports on a single plug-in unit. Each
10G port supports either client or long reach (1500 to 2000 km) optics with
tunable DWDM optics and Forward Error Correction (FEC) via standard GFEC or
super-FEC options. This configuration of effectively 24 10G long reach
transponders and a central 240G switch on a single unit gives very high 10G port
density and power consumption as low as 5W per 10G port even when DWDM optics
are used in all ports.
Magnus Grenfeldt, Transmode's Vice President Product Management, commented, "The
Metro P-OTS market is the fastest growing segment of the optical networking
industry and one that Transmode already serves well via a unique family of
packet-optical transport switches, the EMXP family. This new family member
extends our 10G capabilities both in terms of switching capacity and density and
forms the ideal base to feed the migration to 100G deeper in the network."
The family supports 1G, 10G and 100G Ethernet capabilities and spans
applications from the customer premise to the core network. Recent software
releases for the entire family include industry leading P-OTS capabilities such
as advanced 1+1 and N+N Multi-Chassis LAG and Ring on LAG protection schemes for
highly resilient network architectures.
