Olympic Athlete Erik Guay Appointed Spokesperson for Plein Air Mont-Tremblant

(firmenpresse) - MONT-TREMBLANT, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 06/11/15 -- Plein Air Mont-Tremblant, an organization that brings together the community's key players launched today; it plans to expand the region's 800 km of connected trails to a total of 1,500 km, in order to ensure the continued vitality of its economy and its recreational tourism industry.

Plein Air Mont-Tremblant's mission and objectives were presented at today's press conference by its President, Michel Collins, in the presence of Olympian Erik Guay who was appointed as the organization's spokesperson before Luc Brisebois, Mayor of Ville Mont-Tremblant, Dr. Hugh Scott, Mayor of the municipality Lac-Tremblant-Nord, and partners and members of the new organization, including: Ville de Mont-Tremblant, Mont-Tremblant National Park, Tremblant Resort, Domaine Saint-Bernard Board of Trustees, Club de Velo 2 Vallees, Grande Boucle Tremblant, Ski de Fond Mont-Tremblant, the Randonneurs du Club des Bons Vivants and Velo Mont-Tremblant.

Also present were: Isabelle Leblond, representative of the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Laurentides region, Christine St-Pierre; Isabelle Pare, deputy representative of Labelle, Sylvain Page; Steven Larose, Mayor of Montcalm and Substitute Reeve of MRC des Laurentides; and Dany Maltais, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Mont-Tremblant.

"The organization's mission is to increase access and promote the region as a massive playground for its citizens, tourists, and vacationers. The dream is that each and every Tremblantois and Tremblantoise and their guests can access the region's wonders on foot, on their bikes, on their cross-country skis, or on their mountain bikes," said Mr. Collins.

He added: "Not only do we want to connect and enhance the 800 km of existing trails, making them accessible to all types of users, while respecting high environmental standards, but we want to expand this offering to 1,500 km of connected trails, making this playground, which also includes 380 km of bike trails and 63 km of canoe routes, one of the largest and - most importantly - one of the most accessible attractions of its kind in North America. The total budget required will be $25 million."

A recent study demonstrated that the economic benefits connected to visitors and thus to operations, are major. Thus, the total annual added value that would be generated by visitors could exceed $21 million. This positive impact would be accompanied by the creation of the equivalent of some 426 full-time jobs on a recurring basis.

Moreover, the benefits related to capital expenditures ($25 million) are in the order of $17 million in terms of added value, primarily in wages and corporate profits. The initial investment could support the equivalent of 182 full-time jobs, which could generate $2.6 million for the Quebec government, and nearly $1 million for the Government of Canada.

Total annual revenue for governments (Quebec and Canada) from tax and also taking into account the contribution to the social safety net would be $ 6.3 million.

Ville Mont-Tremblant has already invested $800,000 for the paving of a section of the P'tit train du Nord bicycle trail, and $125,000 over the past three years for the installation of signage on recreational trails. In summary, this represents the installation of 1,020 directional signs, 3,100 informational posters, and 17 reception structures with maps of the region. Also, a budget of $70,000 was awarded in 2015 for the purchase of equipment and planning the implementation of a park with permanent and modular pump tracks. The modular portions could also be available to scooter riders and skateboarders. Blueprints should be prepared during the next summer season.

Finally, $100,000 was allocated to Velo Mont-Tremblant - $50,000 from Plein Air Mont-Tremblant and $50,000 from the National Trails Coalition - for the ecological restoration of part of the trail system.

"We are very proud that all of the community's trail management organizations are working together, towards the achievement of a common mission: to unlock the region's full potential in a sustainable way," said Luc Brisebois, Mayor of Ville Mont-Tremblant.
