9th International CTI Symposium and Exhibition
"Innovative Automotive Transmissions, Hybrid and Electric Drivetrains"
(November 30 to December 2, 2010, Berlin)

Düsseldorf/Berlin, August 2010. Automobile manufacturers have long been adapting
their model strategies according to the differing mobility requirements of their
customers in each international market. They respond flexibly to their
customers' expectations in terms of comfort, safety, environmental factors,
performance and price. The resulting wide variety of vehicle concepts and
engines means that transmission technology is placed under considerable pressure
to adapt. Only a transmission that has been perfectly adapted to the driving
profile can support a vehicle's performance to best effect and contribute to
increased efficiency. Hybrid and electric drivetrains increase the complexity of
the drivetrain technologies and result in the need for further made-to-measure
solutions.
The 9th International CTI Symposium "Innovative Automotive Transmissions, Hybrid
and Electric Drivetrains" (November 30 to December 2, 2010, Berlin) picks up on
current trends in the development of drivetrain technologies. In ten technical
forums, around fifty companies from the automobile industry will be presenting
new concepts for the various forms of drivetrain in the automobile. Along with
the opportunities for increasing the efficiency of transmissions, the latest
developments in the area of hybrid and electric drivetrains will be discussed at
the CTI Symposium. The role of the transmission in hybrid and electric vehicles
will be another focal point. In addition, questions relating to energy storage
and various transmission components will also be presented. As part of the
plenary event, Ralf Najork (GETRAG Corporate Group), Dr. Manfred Klüting (BMW
AG), Dr. Tim Leverton (Tata Motors Ltd.) and Kazutoshi Noma (Jatco Ltd.) will be
discussing the question of how much transmission, engine and battery the car of
the future will need. Dr. Gerd Bofinger of Porsche AG will talk about the
significance of all-wheel drive systems for high-performance vehicles.
Dr. Nobert Verweyen (RWE Effizienz GmbH) will describe the potential of
electric-powered mobility for the energy industry. As part of one of the
technical forums there will also be a discussion of the initial results from
fleet trials with electric vehicles. The changes in transmission development
resulting from electrification of the drivetrain will also be taken up by Dr.
Wolf-Ekkehard Krieg (ZF Sachs AG) and Masanori Ueda (Nissan Motor Co.).
"Transmission Days" combine symposium, exhibition and transmission road test
The CTI Symposium "Innovative Automotive Transmissions, Hybrid and Electric
Drivetrains" has established its reputation as one of the most important events
for transmission and drivetrain experts worldwide. In addition to the
wide-ranging conference program, the accompanying exhibition "Transmission Expo"
with over 70 international exhibitors offers further opportunities to find out
all about global trends in the industry. www.transmission-expo.de Along with
exhibitors, the winners of this year's CTI Young Drive Experts Award will also
be presented here. This award will be handed over to the best up-and-coming
engineers in the area of transmission and drivetrain development at the plenary
session of the CTI Symposium on December 1.

The two-day symposium will be preceded by an introductory day on November
29, 2010. In two parallel series of talks, the interdisciplinary knowledge
resulting from the electrification of the drivetrain will be picked out as a
central theme for developers from the areas of drivetrain and transmission
technology. The event will end as is traditional with the opportunity to take
part in a comparative road test of current transmission and drivetrain
technologies at the ADAC driving safety center in Berlin-Brandenburg.
