Neste Oil's second renewable diesel plant commissioned at Porvoo
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Neste Oil has increased its capacity to produce NExBTL renewablediesel following the start-up of a second dedicated NExBTL plant atthe company's main refinery at Porvoo. The new plant will be capableof producing 170,000 t/a of NExBTL renewable diesel. The start-up ofthe plant in June went well, and it has been producing the advancedfuel for a couple of weeks. The plant operates now on full capacity.Neste Oil commissioned its first NExBTL plant - also at Porvoo andalso with a capacity of 170,000 t/a - in summer 2007, and is buildingtwo world-scale plants, in Singapore and Rotterdam. Capable ofproducing 800,000 t/a each, these are due to be completed in 2010 and2011."Our NExBTL renewable diesel is the world's cleanest and best diesel, and is very much in demand because of this," says Neste Oil's DeputyCEO Jarmo Honkamaa. "Our customers don't want to compromise onquality when it comes to meeting their bio content obligations. Byreplacing conventional diesel with NExBTL everyone can reduce theirgreenhouse gas emissions significantly and help improve urban airquality."Neste Oil CorporationHanna MaulaDirector, Corporate CommunicationsFurther information:Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President, Renewable Fuels JarmoHonkamaa, tel. +358 (0)10 458 4758Neste OilNeste Oil Corporation is a refining and marketing companyconcentrating on low-emission, high-quality traffic fuels. See www.nesteoil.com for more information.NExBTL renewable dieselNeste Oil uses a proprietary technology to produce NExBTL renewablediesel fuel. This converts bio-based inputs into a fuel thatresembles fossil diesel very closely in terms of its chemicalcomposition. The process delivers a fuel with excellent technicalspecifications in areas such as startability and performance at lowtemperatures. The result is a better-quality product than currentfossil diesel and one that is also aromatics- and sulfur-free. It isfully compatible with all diesel engines and all current fuellogistics and distribution systems.Studies covering the entire life cycle of the product have shownthat, when based on sustainably produced raw materials, NExBTLrenewable diesel offers greenhouse gas emissions that are 40-80%lower than those of the best fossil diesel. Extensive field testshave also shown that using NExBTL reduces local emissions ofparticulates and NOx significantly as well compared to conventionaldiesel fuel. Neste Oil is committed to only using sustainablyproduced inputs in its NExBTL production and will use solelyRSPO-certified palm oil by the end of 2015 or earlier if it isavailable in sufficient quantities. This announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
