EDRM Publishes Micro Datasets
Newest EDRM Resource Advances Testing and Validation in E-Discovery Processes
(firmenpresse) - ST. PAUL, MN -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/15 -- , the leading standards organization for the e-discovery market, announced today the release of the first of its "Micro Datasets." These datasets are designed for e-discovery data testing and process validation. Software vendors, litigation support organizations, law firms and others may use these smaller sets to qualify support, test speed and accuracy in indexing and search, and conduct more forensically oriented analytics exercises throughout the e-discovery workflow.
The initial offering is a 136.9 MB zip file containing the latest versions of everything from Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat files to image files. The EDRM Dataset group has scoured the internet and found usable freely available data at universities, government sites and elsewhere, a selection of which are included in the zip file.
"We have found publically available datasets were hard to acquire and use easily so we decided to put together some smaller sets of relevant data for easy download and testing," shared EDRM Dataset working group leaders Eric Robi of Elluma Discovery and Michael Lappin of Nuix.
"We are also putting the finishing touches on some really interesting advanced file sets for EDRM members that have been created by the Digital Forensics Research Laboratories at the Auckland University of Technology," reported Robi. "Those include systematically corrupted and encrypted files that can be used in exception handling exercises and testing."

EDRM creates practical resources to improve e-discovery and information governance. Launched in May 2005, EDRM was established to create standards and guidelines in the e-discovery market. In January 2006, EDRM published the Electronic Discovery Reference Model, followed by additional resources such as IGRM, CARRM and the Talent Task Matrix. Since its launch, EDRM has comprised 331 organizations, including 188 service and software providers, 71 law firms, 53 corporations, eight governmental entities, four industry groups and seven educational institutions involved with e-discovery and information governance.
