HOOPP Is Honoured With Three Prestigious Awards in Environmental Sustainability

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/22/15 -- Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) continues to be recognized as a leader in sustainability and responsible investing, winning three prestigious awards this month.
The first two awards; Canada's Clean50, recognize individuals and small teams who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada, over the past two years.
Lisa Lafave, Senior Portfolio Manager at HOOPP, was honoured as one of Canada's Clean50 and recognized as a leader in sustainability in Canada. "Our sustainability program is designed around industry best practices to enhance asset values," said Lafave. "Simply put, investing in healthy, efficient and high-quality buildings makes perfect business sense."
HOOPP was also recognized for its LEAP Conference and Awards in the Clean50, Top 15 Projects Category which recognizes projects for their innovation, ability to inform and to inspire other Canadians. This was the first year for the LEAP conference and the fourth year of the LEAP awards, which together exemplifies "responsible investing" and how an investor can contribute to a more sustainable Canadian economy.
The 2016 LEAP Conference and Awards will take place in Vancouver, May 2016.
And for a third year in a row, HOOPP has earned a Green Star, the highest placement in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Survey. HOOPP also ranked second in the GRESB peer group of North American Diversified (Office/Retail) real estate portfolios. GRESB is a progressive, global institutional investor sustainability assessment, sponsored by investors representing more than $6 trillion of owned assets. HOOPP has been an investor member and participated in the annual assessment since 2013.
About the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan
Created in 1960, HOOPP is a multi-employer contributory defined benefit plan for Ontario's hospital and community-based healthcare sector with over 470 participating employers. HOOPP's 295,000 members and pensioners include nurses, medical technicians, food services staff and housekeeping staff, and many other people who work hard to provide valued Ontario healthcare services.
As a defined benefit plan, HOOPP provides eligible members with a retirement income based on a formula that takes into account a member's earnings history and length of service in the Plan. Once eligible members start receiving a pension, they receive it for life.
HOOPP is governed by a Board of Trustees with representation from the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and four unions: the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Ontario Public Service Employees' Union (OPSEU), and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The unique governance model provides representation from both management and workers in support of the long-term interests of the Plan.
