Canada-Based Merchant Chooses MarketLive's Award-Winning Commerce Platform After Extensive Search

(firmenpresse) - PETALUMA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/27/15 -- , the e-commerce technology platform for fast-growing retailers, today announced that Canadian furniture merchant Urban Barn launched its entire online retail operations on MarketLive's award-winning commerce software platform.

Urban Barn, with 51 stores across Canada, approached MarketLive with the challenge of re-designing and launching its e-commerce operations, while maintaining a consistent customer brand experience online and offline, and also moving Urban Barn's website and merchandizing to a hosted platform for the first time. Among the requirements for the new commerce platform were tight integration with existing ERP and CRM systems, IT flexibility, and close vendor support from technology development all the way through implementation and training.

"Our main goal for Urban Barn, since we are an established retail brand, was to create an online store that maintains a consistent customer experience with our in-store brand," said Nurez Khimji, CFO for Urban Barn Ltd. "MarketLive was our first choice in an e-commerce platform. We considered their long history and repeated success with other furniture retailers, and the flexibility of their platform. Also, given the fact that MarketLive does not contract the implementation out to a third party, that is when we knew they were exactly the right fit for us."

Brick-and-Mortar retailers like Urban Barn are the surprising winners in the online e-commerce race. MarketLive's recent Performance Index report showed that revenues for the brick and mortar category out-paced the overall retail index by 43 percent over the past eight consecutive quarters -- indicating that traditional retailers are effectively leveraging the digital eco-system.

"The technology deployment for Urban Barn is a textbook study in how retailers today can integrate their online and offline operations to make a seamless experience for shoppers," said Ken Burke, founder and CEO of MarketLive, Inc. "As more shoppers are searching for their favorite brick-and-mortar brands online, they are expecting their websites to work seamlessly. Retailers need to build the technology to leverage the enormous digital commerce opportunity while leveraging their existing brick and mortar IT systems."

Urban Barn started in 1990 with just one brick and mortar store located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and has since grown to 50 stores and a robust online store selling contemporary furniture, home décor, and accessories. The name 'Urban Barn' was inspired by the rustic character of its original store, which resembled a barn in the midst of urbanized Vancouver.
