Media Advisory: PIPSC Statement Following Ruling in the Case of Three Whistleblowers Fired by Health Canada

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/11 -- Gary Corbett, President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) will issue a preliminary statement for the media, following the ruling rendered last week by the Public Service Labour Relations Board in the case of Dr. Shiv Chopra, Dr. Margaret Haydon and Dr. Gerard Lambert.
The three scientists working at the Veterinary Drugs Directorate of Health Canada were dismissed by Health Canada officials for "insubordination" in 2004 and are renowned whistleblowers in a drug evaluation safety case. With the support of PIPSC, the three have been fighting their unfair treatment before the Public Service Relations Board since their dismissal.
PIPSC is the union representing federal scientists whose work impacts the daily lives of Canadians. Among the 60,000 members are 23,000 professionals who deliver, among other knowledge products, scientific research, testing and advice for sound policy-making.
