Fish Habitat Project Underway at Suzanne Kernaghan Memorial Trail Bridge Site

(firmenpresse) - NORTHUMBERLAND, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/11 -- Media are invited to attend

Community partners working together to improve fish habitat along Colborne Creek invite the community to attend a two-day event which offers opportunities to learn about the project, take a stroll along the new Suzanne Kernaghan Memorial trail, volunteer a couple of hours of labor improving the stream and enjoy a BBQ lunch. The event takes place in Rotary Centennial Park in Colborne on August 12 and 13.

The Community Stream Steward Program (CSSP), hosted by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), is working with the Rotary Club of Colborne, Township of Cramahe, Lower Trent Conservation Authority, Northumberland Stewardship Council, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources' Community Fisheries and Wildlife Involvement Program, Cramahe Horticultural Society, and Sir Sandford Fleming College to complete the project and host the event.

The Colborne Creek project, located in Cramahe Township, will improve fish habitat by stabilizing stream banks, providing cover features for trout and planting native shrubs along the creek. The project is located alongside the new Suzanne Kernaghan Memorial Trail pedestrian bridge, and participants are invited to take a self-guided tour of the trail.

The CSSP is a multi-partner, non-profit conservation organization that works in collaboration with landowners, volunteers and community groups to restore, protect and enhance streams throughout the region. With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 670 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit fish and wildlife conservation-based organization in Ontario. Visit to learn more.
