Container Management and RFID
(PresseBox) - Containers are the best option when it comes to transporting cargo: about 70 per cent of general cargo is transported in containers. More than 90 per cent of trade worldwide is handled via sea routes. No wonder then, that a lot has changed in the container environment over the past 20 years ? experts speak of a container revolution or containerisation. Since 1996, the number of container ships and the entire global container market has doubled, growing three times faster than the global economy. This is for good reason ? to transport consumer and bulk cargo in containers reduces costs and speeds up international transport.
But not every container is the same and not every container is used for freight transport. Accommodation containers are currently in big demand throughout Europe. Another container option is refrigerated containers, which will support the appropriate ripening process of fruit during transport and storage. The common element with containers is that they appear en masse and they need to be clearly identified and tracked to achieve a thorough itinerary of every process. Is this an ideal environment for the use of RFID technology?
