Dr. Arthur Chal Provides Advice on How to Distinguish Between a High-Quality TMJ Pain Clinic or Dental Professional and One That Primarily Seeks Profit

(firmenpresse) - PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/15 -- Dr. Arthur Chal, a , has personal experience with temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD. He sought treatment for the common jaw condition after being diagnosed following a car accident. In his search, however, he discovered many corporate TMJ pain clinics provide sub-par care, seemingly in order to increase profits. To help patients in a similar position, Dr. Chal completed intensive training in TMJ dysfunction, and he now advises individuals about what to look for and what to avoid when selecting a dental professional with TMJ expertise.

Dr. Chal says that one warning sign that a TMJ pain clinic may not be reputable is if they exclusively provide . He suggests that trustworthy practices will offer more comprehensive dental care, such as restorative or preventive options, or they will be backed by a university. Dr. Chal personally recommends the Orofacial Pain Clinic at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry for patients with extremely complex problems.

Additionally, Dr. Chal advises against selecting a dentist or clinic that recommends BOTOX® injections, particularly if the clinic emphasizes that it will be inexpensive or free through medical insurance. He says BOTOX® injections may offer pain relief in the short term for some patients, but this approach will not address the underlying cause of the problem. The injections will therefore have to be repeated indefinitely, which can generate a huge income for the practice.

Dr. Chal's include reviewing the individual's credentials. "Ninety-nine percent of dentists have no post-doctoral, advanced training in TMJ treatment. This is not something that is included in the basic curriculum in dentistry." He suggests asking a dental professional about his or her educational background with respect to TMD.

Emphasizing the profit-centered nature of many TMJ pain clinics, Dr. Chal urges individuals to research their options and trust their intuition. The one-size-fits-all approach of some of these facilities, he notes, may be a lucrative business plan that can jeopardize care. For the most accurate diagnosis and the most effective treatment possible, Dr. Chal recommends taking the time to find a who believes that patients trump profit.
