"The International Day of the World's Indigenous People is an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the diversity of indigenous peoples worldwide.

In Canada, Aboriginal peoples are part of our history and our future. The November 12, 2010, endorsement of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples reinforces our government's commitment to reconciliation and strengthening our relationship with Aboriginal peoples in Canada. We are working with Aboriginal communities, provinces and territories to support economic development opportunities.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I join all indigenous people in celebrating this important day."
