Patients pondering which of these two medical procedures might be most appropriate for their situation should understand the different applications for both. There is also a difference in how each of these medical procedures is carried out. Ideal tummy tuck patients are more often females whose abdominal muscles have been stretched several times through childbirth, and no longer retain the elasticity to recover afterward. Women who may still become pregnant should postpone tummy tuck surgery, because pregnancy could easily cause tightened abdominal wall muscles to separate again. The procedure can also be ideal for older patients who have lost elasticity in the abdominal area, and may even be somewhat obese.
