In January 2016, Tikkurila will launch new training sessions for DIY consumers
in Finland. Tikkurila has lengthy traditions of providing training services, but
before this, they have mainly been organized for professionals such as painters
and designers, retailers and students in the industry. Expanding its training
selection is Tikkurila's answer for the increase in the general public's
enthusiasm for DIY. The themes for the planned consumer training courses for
2016 are furniture fixing, garden design, children's rooms and special effects.
The pilot training sessions will be organized in cooperation with interior
magazines.
There has been a clear increase in people's enthusiasm for DIY in recent years.
There are a variety of reasons behind this trend, one of which is ecological
sustainability and recycling. "Often the best way is not to buy new objects but
to repair old ones to get a well-functioning and more unique solution. Recycled
furniture and other smaller decorative elements which have been fixed up to
perfectly fit the interior are clearly a trend at the moment," notes Tikkurila's
Training Manager, Marcus Wallström. "Through training, we can provide precise
solutions for consumers' individual requirements."
Tikkurila's phone and chat service, Maalilinja, serves tens of thousands of
customers every year. The service has been steadily growing in popularity.
People are looking for ideas as well as advice at different stages of their
painting projects. "Despite people being busier these days, they are still
interested in DIY painting. We already offer a variety of services for
consumers, but we wanted to supplement our selection with training options for
DIY painters," says Rami Kuparinen who is in charge of Tikkurila's Maalilinja.
The popular blogger and interior designer, Susanna Vento alias Varpunen, offers
her ideas for sprucing up old furniture on the first training course. She has
also painted some example pieces of furniture for the first session. Click here

The instructions for achieving the same result as Susanna did with her furniture
can be found on Tikkurila's website in Finnish:
