Cigarette Smoking Renders Certain RA Treatments Ineffective

In a study conducted by Swedish researchers, it involved 1,430 rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. The participants received treatments for a 3-month period. The results showed that the non-smoking group responded better with the treatment.
The study also revealed that those who used to smoke and have already stopped have responded with the treatment just as well as those who do not smoke. Experts recommended that RA sufferers should avoid smoking and improve their diet and lifestyle.
This requires eliminating or reducing the consumption of alcohol, in addition to avoiding cigarette smoking. Engaging in a regular exercise is also recommended for sufferers. Using natural alternatives such as glucosamine is also thought to be helpful for sufferers.
A Japanese study in 2007 reveals that RA sufferers who took glucosamine achieved significant relief from the pain caused by the condition. The participants also experienced improvements in their symptoms.
