KARL STORZ uses the term VITOM for a novel system for the microscopic visualization of surgical procedures. With this system, the company's extraordinary expertise in endoscopic visualization is being applied to open surgical procedures. An exoscope, which unlike an endoscope is not inserted into the body but placed above the surgical site at a distance of 20 cm, supplies images of the surgical site with excellent depth of field, magnification, contrast, and color rendition. The visualization via a monitor also gives the entire team an optimal view of or into the surgical field, and high-resolution images and videos can be generated during surgery using appropriate documentation units.
