Public Utility Challenge Launches Innovate Phones; Global Payphone Rejuvenation Challenge

The project is calling on all Innovators and Inventors to re-imagine and re-invigorate the traditional street payphone by combining smart city technologies with bespoke design. By changing the traditional telephonic functions of payphones to be more "tech friendly", contestants have the opportunity to make smart, healthy, safe, and accessible cities for the experience enhancement of its residents, visitors and businesses alike.
"We have partnered with global organizations and are looking to students, design, technology, and architecture professionals along with anyone else who is interested to develop an innovative solution that leverages old archaic pay phones from a not too distant past and converts them into smart city solutions situated in a rich and dynamic urban environment, with an attractive and effective design." Says Public Utility Challenge Co-Founder and renowned entrepreneur Sergio Fernández de Córdova.
The Innovate PayPhones Challenge is open for submission now and closes May 12th 2016. Submissions will then be reviewed by a panel of industry leading judges and 15 finalists will be selected for public vote. Winners will then be announced on June 22nd 2016, with up to $25,000 in prizes available, in addition to working with global industry leaders and having your design implemented on committed city streets around the world.
