(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/16 -- The Government of Canada strongly believes that investments in infrastructure are about more than just creating good jobs and economic growth. Infrastructure is what connects us to our communities and allows us to play an active role in them, both socially and economically.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I have met with stakeholders throughout the country to better understand the realities of the arts and culture sector. I believe that cultural spaces make our communities stronger and allow us to celebrate the many cultures that make Canada so diverse.

I am pleased that our government is making significant investments in cultural infrastructure across the country. Budget 2016 has earmarked $168.2 million over two years for the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund. The Fund makes arts and culture more accessible to Canadians by helping renovate and build arts and heritage facilities. I encourage arts and heritage organizations across the country to explore the opportunities available through the .

The Budget also proposes investments of up to $280.9 million over five years to support the infrastructure needs of three important Canadian cultural institutions. We will renew the National Arts Centre, help expand the Canada Science and Technology Museum by building a new collection and conservation centre, and undertake repairs to the National Gallery of Canada.

I believe that this historic investment in cultural infrastructure will not only stimulate economic growth and jobs, but also help build vibrant, resilient and inclusive communities.
