Zac Brown Band Honored by Grammys on the Hill
The Zac Brown Band was awarded the Recording Artists Coalition Award for their musical work and their commitment to philanthropy Wednesday evening. The award is given annually by The Recording Academy’s Advocacy and Public Policy office in Washington D.C.

Wednesday evening. GRAMMYs on the Hill is an annual event that recognizes the achievements of music creators and lawmakers who are committed to preserving American music and its many professional areas. The two-day event each year brings together musicians and other music industry professionals with lawmakers to celebrate achievements and further their work.
The Wednesday night event included live performances, award presentations, and legislative lobbying. According to the organization, they chose the Zac Brown Band as the 2016 recipient for the band's musical achievement and commitment to philanthropic causes. The band's varied causes include Zac Brown's Camp Southern Ground, which supports children struggling with academic, emotional and societal difficulties.
Brown told the assembled crowd that the Academy is important because it works hard to create a level economic playing field that €œpromotes innovation and financial viability for all music creators."
He said that the band's members are dedicated supporters of the Academy's work.
The nonpartisan event enjoyed bipartisan support. Others honored during the evening included Democrat Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.) and Republican Tom Rooney (Fla.), both recognized for their support of musical artists. Rooney admits to being a huge Zac Brown Band fan, and has seen the band in concert three times. He said that he is pleased to be in a position where he can take his love of music and try to make a difference legislatively for those who create it.
The two congressional representatives are co-sponsors of a bipartisan bill to protect the royalties of producers and engineers, which is one of the Grammy Foundation's legislative lobbying priorities.
The Grammys on the Hill event represents a short tour break for the Zac Brown Band, which is about to kick off the spring-summer leg of its national tour. They'll be headlining at the Southern Ground Music and Food Festival this coming weekend, and launch into a full summer schedule of touring with a May 19 show in Hartford, CT.
