CIO Scholarship Fund to Host Second Annual CIO Golf Tournament
Provides Financial Support for Disadvantaged Students

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/15/11 -- The CIO Scholarship Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that enables economically disadvantaged students to pursue information technology degrees, is pleased to announce the 2nd annual CIO Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament on August 26, 2011 at The Course (at) Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA.
Colleges and universities offer fewer scholarships today in the face of reduced state funding. The CIO Scholarship Fund, organized in 2002 by CIOs of leading businesses, offers scholarships to outstanding students who might not otherwise be able to pay for higher education. Students who have received money from the Fund are enrolled at colleges including DeAnza College, San Jose State University, San Francisco State University, and University of California at Berkeley.
More than 60 ambassadors (CIOs & VPs of IT) from companies including Facebook, eBay, Intuit and Clorox have pledged their support to the CIO Scholarship Fund and will be joining a growing list of over 20 corporate sponsors including our Platinum team of Exalead, Flexera, and Sparta. "The CIO Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is a fun event bringing together hundreds of CIOs and leaders to help create scholarships for the world's future information technology leaders," says Dean Lane, Principal at the Office of the CIO and one of the founders of the fund. "At last year's inaugural event, we made over $70,000 for the Fund and are over $100,000 so far this year. With your help this year, we can do even better!" said Lane. Registration is open to qualifying IT execs for two more days.
When - August 26, 2011, 10:30a - 8:30p
Who - Any senior level IT executive, no matter the golfing skill level.
Where - The Course (at) Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA
It all started with a book. In 2002 a group of Silicon Valley Chief Information Officers were selected to collaborate on what would become a series of books dedicated to the profession of information technology. Rather than fight over the profits, these CIOs agreed to establish a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation so that 100% of profits could go towards educating our future information technology leaders. Since its inception multiple authors on books related to information technology and security have dedicated profits in part or whole to the fund. All monies are put towards grants for economically disadvantaged students focused on careers in information technology and computer science.
The Fund plans to expand its capabilities thanks to the support and generosity of our growing community.
