A memorial honouring more than 1,000 Italian workers who died in workplace accidents in Ontario will be unveiled at the Villa Charities campus in Toronto on April 28th.
The 3 p.m. unveiling ceremony coincides with the international Day of Mourning for workers killed, injured or disabled on the job. The memorial is the culmination of a six-year effort to formally recognize Italian workers' enormous sacrifices in the building and industrial development of Ontario.

Who: The event will be attended by: Toronto Mayor John Tory; Hon. Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation; Hon. Kevin Flynn, Minister of Labour; David Lametti, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade; MPs including Eglinton-Lawrence MP Marco Mendicino; MPPs; Toronto City Councillors; Italy's Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Gian Lorenzo Cornado; the Consul General of Italy in Toronto, Giuseppe Pastorelli; relatives of fallen workers; union representatives; volunteers; donors; Villa Charities leaders and others. Media are invited.
When: 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016
Where: Villa Colombo Memorial Gardens, 901 Lawrence Ave. W., Toronto (on the Villa Charities campus at Lawrence and Dufferin).
The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the gardens, weather permitting, or the nearby Carrier Gallery, in the Columbus Centre.
