ISAP Crews Take to the Road in Search of Invasive Species

(firmenpresse) - PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/16/11 -- Media, meet at 10AM at each site, lunch provided

The first step in effectively managing Ontario's invasive terrestrial species is finding where the species are located. The Invading Species Awareness Program (ISAP) is taking on that challenge in three target areas by hosting road rallies to track, monitor and map terrestrial invasive species.

The information gathered during the rallies, scheduled this month for Medonte, Gwillimbury and King Township, will be added to the Invasives Tracking System, a publicly accessible online tracking tool (). Knowing where invasives are taking hold helps to coordinate management activities.

For more information, contact Fraser Smith at or call 1-800-563-7711.

The OFAH and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources partner to deliver the Invading Species Awareness Program, the largest program of its kind in Canada, which uses public education and awareness to prevent the introduction of new invasive species, and to help stop the spread of those already here.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 670 member clubs, the OFAH is the province's largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization, and the VOICE of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit .
