Kesko's July sales decreased by 12.7%
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - KESKO CORPORATION STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 14.08.2009 AT 11.00 1(2)The Kesko Group's sales from continuing operations in July 2009totalled ?728.1 million (excluding VAT), which is down by 12.7%compared with the previous year. In January-July the sales totalled?4,946.5 million (excluding VAT), which is down by 13.7%.In the food trade, sales in July were ?331.4 million, an increase of2.5%. Sales to the K-food store chains were up 6.4%.In the home and speciality goods trade, sales in July were ?127.6million, nearly matching the previous year's level (-1.1%). The salesof K-citymarket's home and speciality goods and the sports goodssales increased. Home technology and furniture sales decreased overthe previous year.In the building and home improvement trade, sales in July were ?204.4million, a decrease of 24.4%. Sales in Finland were down 23.3%,especially due to the decline in sales to business customers and thesales of agricultural supplies. Sales in foreign countries decreasedby 25.2% in terms of euros and by 18.0% in terms of local currencies.In the Baltic countries, sales were down 37.9%. In Russia, salesdropped by 18.2% in terms of euros, and by 1.3% in terms of the localcurrency.In the car and machinery trade, VV-Auto's sales in July were ?45.1million, which is down by 39.8% compared with the previous year. Inaddition to the market downturn in the car trade, sales performancewas affected by the car tax act which came into force in April,because of which car tax levied on cars after 1 April 2009 is notincluded in sales figures. In Finland, new registrations of passengercars dropped by 38.7% in July. Konekesko's sales in July were ?30.7million, down 37.2%.
