ST and Weifu Cooperate to Address Automotive Engine Control
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
* Collaboration to focus on diesel-engine fuel injection, automotive-exhaust
post-processing, and intake systems to better anticipate more stringent
emission regulation
* ST to contribute expertise with control and protection components and 32-bit
automotive microcontrollers, as well as related technical support,
development tools, and training
Beijing, China, May 23, 2016 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global
semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics
applications, and Weifu High-Technology Group Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese
provider of automotive electronic control systems, today announced ST's
participation in Weifu's Researching and Testing Institute of Engineering and
Technology. The cooperative efforts will focus on the development and study of
automotive core solutions, including diesel-engine fuel injection equipment
(FIE), automotive exhaust post-processing, and intake systems.
On top of the consequences of the fast growth of vehicle sales in China, the
adoption of electronic control systems is mostly driven by more and more
stringent emission standards for vehicles, such as the China V standard already
deployed in Beijing and Shanghaï and due for national deployment by 2018. Weifu
and ST are sharing their complementary talents to address the requirements of
the government and the needs of the industry.
Weifu specializes in electronic control systems for three main automotive
applications: intake, fuel injection, and exhaust. ST, one of the world's
leading suppliers of semiconductors to the automotive industry, has rich
experience in collaborating with suppliers of auto parts and components and
offers one of the industry's broadest portfolios of automotive ICs.
"Weifu is one of China's leading domestic providers of engine core components
and control solutions. We have established good relationships and cooperation
with many leading engine makers in China in diesel-engine fuel-injection
equipment, engine air-intake systems, and exhaust after-treatment systems," said
Xiaodong Wang, General Manager of Weifu. "The cooperation with ST benefits from
their cutting-edge application-specific ICs and solutions to ensure outstanding
quality and performance."
To facilitate the cooperation, ST is set to provide its latest automotive-
semiconductor technology and solutions, including single- and multi-cylinder
diesel injection control, Power Architecture(TM)-based 32-bit microcontrollers,
and general-purpose high- and low-side driving chips, along with the appropriate
related application notes, reference designs, development tools, technical
support, and training.
"With increasing automated control technology in automotive applications and the
development of China's emission standards for vehicles, cooperation across
disciplines becomes necessary. ST is a leader in engaging with its partners to
build strong ecosystems that include microcontrollers and peripheral chips
together with development tool chains," said Edoardo Merli, Marketing and
Application Director, Automotive and Discrete Group, Greater China and South
Asia Region, STMicroelectronics. "We believe our collaboration with Weifu will
bring even greater momentum to ST's development of the automotive IC market in
China while helping our partner to cultivate the Electronic Diesel Control
market."
